Environmental Policies
Wheal-Grace Corporation Environmental Policies and Practices
At Wheal-Grace it is our policy to be environmentally responsible. In doing so we have enacted the following policies:
1. Meet and if possible exceed all governmental rules and regulations concerning our environmental impact.
2. Minimize Wheal-Grace’s carbon footprint in all areas of our facility. Only essential and legal documents are printed and any nonessential documents are recycled.
3. Use sustainable products in our printing such as vegetable based inks, alcohol free components and recycled paper and byproducts. We completely eliminated film and related chemistry years ago.
4. Evaluate our environmental agenda to see if we are meeting our goals and make improvements where necessary.
5. Recycle wastepaper, trimmings, and aluminum printing plates, corrugated board, and fluorescent light bulbs.
6. Include environmental impact in our performance standards.
At Wheal-Grace we strive for excellence in an environmentally conscious environment by practicing the following:
1. Plant-wide recycling: wastepaper, trimmings, aluminum printing plates, corrugated board, and fluorescent light bulbs.
2. Our printing ink is stored in stationary indoor leak proof containers and a state certified handler with a chain of command record properly removes the waste.
3. Wheal-Grace developed and trademarked the Green Print program that offers eco-friendly printing: Recycled paper, vegetable-based inks, alcohol free components, and recycling of by-products. Green Print proprietary software calculates the environmental benefits of a project based on the most current data from the EPA and other sources. Our Green Print program is in essence a mini environmental impact statement on each project we produce.
4. In an effort to compensate for the energy we consume Wheal-Grace purchases wind energy credits, which replaces with wind an equal amount of energy, used by our building. We purchase enough wind energy credits to put back into the grid 100% of our power usage.
5. Our FSC certification is our commitment to socially responsible forest management.
6. Our environmental officer maintains a current environmental contingency crisis plan. All environmental forms are filed and updated on a regular basis.
7. We, at Wheal-Grace, try to minimize our hazardous waste by employing reduction techniques. An important method of waste management is the prevention of waste material being created, also known as waste reduction. Methods of avoidance include reuse of second-hand products, repairing broken items instead of buying new, refillable and reusable products, and avoidance of disposable products.
